Since my first days in the meditative red glow of our high school darkroom, photography has encompassed all of my creative interests with it's ability to be visually stimulating, emotionally captivating and communicative of the human condition.

Not wanting to ruin my favorite hobby by turning it into work, I pursued the craft recreationally for three years before succumbing to the unavoidable pull of making a career from something that has come to define who I am.

The pursuit of a professional career in image making started with my Diploma of Journalism from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, Alberta majoring in photojournalism. During my years in Cow Town and a short time in Edmonton, I freelanced for a variety of publications including Hockey Now, True Player sports magazine, the SAIT Alumni Association, the Calgary Herald, the Calgary Hitmen and the Edmonton Sun.

I've covered a variety of high profile events over the years including ESSENT USI World Cup speed skating at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, the national RCMP tragedy that took place in Mayerthorpe, Alta. in 2005, Queen Elizabeth's visit to Alberta in 2005 and the Brier in Edmonton.

From 2003 to 2008, I made my living almost exclusively as a professional photojournalist and writer working mostly in the print media industry as reporter, editor and newspaper photographer. In recent years, I've turned my enjoyment of people, and the fast pace of event photography towards documenting weddings.

In May 2005, I settle in Jasper in the heart of Alberta's Rocky Mountains to enjoy the pristine beauty and unlimited outdoor adventures available in one of Canada's national parks. It's here, amongst the mountains and the support of this dynamic community, that I've been able to reconnect with the mystery that first drew me to this craft.

As an art form, photography's universal appeal makes it one of the most heart wrenching, inspiring and impact filled mediums available. I revel in the chance to challenge my creative ability and communication skills through this ever-changing medium.

Photography is art, history, communication and emotion all captured in single moments of time. Photography - be it for weddings, documentaries, portraits, sports or events - tells stories and gives us insight into the human condition. My aim, in any project I take on, is to capture the humanity, emotion and beauty that can only be frozen in time by a still image. - Alisen

"The creative act lasts but a brief moment, a lightning instant of give-and-take, just long enough for you to level the camera and to trap the fleeting prey in your little box." ~Henri Cartier Bresson

"Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again." ~Henri Cartier Bresson
